Giants' Book Club!!!

Giants:

Saturday, after a few people had left the meeting, I shared with those who were still there about a book that I just finished reading and am still reading – You’ll understand in a minute. :) The book is called The Traveler’s Gift. The premise of the book is a man whose life is completely not what he wants. He’s lost his job and benefits after working at a company for about 20 years, he has no money or insurance to pay for the operation that his daughter leaves, he goes from living fairly well to living on the brink of poverty, and he has a job who treats him not-so-well…

Driving home from work, he begins to speed, not really caring about what happens to him. His car swerves off the road and he blacks out… Then he wakes up in Harry Truman’s office on the day that Truman had made the decision to drop the atomic bomb on Japan… And, hence begins a series of travels to famous people in history on a day of importance – a day where they made a choice that changed the world. Some of the people that he meets are Abraham Lincoln, Anne Frank, and I’ll keep the rest a secret!

Anyway, each person that he visits gives him a gift – It’s a piece of paper with writing on it. What the person has written him is a life decision. The “thing” that has that person live life the way that they have chosen to – powerfully! It’s an amazing book, a very quick and easy read, and has the potential to be life-changing. Why? Because, after you read the book, you’re asked to take on reading each of the 7 life decisions (I prefer the term choices) twice a day for 21 days. If you choose to do that, at the end of 21 days, it is very likely that that life choice has become something more than just words on a paper… it becomes part of your being. I’ve been part of a book club that is doing just that, and it’s really amazing what’s opened up for me inside of living Decision 1 (I don’t want to share yet, b/c I don’t want to ruin it for any of you who want to read the book. :) )

Anyway, those of us who were at the meeting said it would be cool if all of the Giants took on reading the book. :) So, if you’re interested, purchase the book and read it. :) If we all want to take on the 21-day challenge per life choice, we can start that on the same day, and then we can blog what we are getting out of it throughout the 21-day period.

Since there are several people traveling during the month of October, we thought it would be a good idea for everyone to try to get the book and read at least the first few chapters (until you get through Decision One) before the end of October. (Vivi, I checked and could not find the book as an e-book :( ). That way we could begin the 21-day challenge of reading Decision #1 twice a day on Thursday, November 1st. The chapters are very short, and, as I said, the book is a very easy read. This means, Arnie, Michelle, Igor, and Nara, that you guys will be on vacation during the 21 days, so you’ll just encourage and hold one another accountable to reading Decision #1 twice a day during that time. :)

Let me know if this time frame works, if you’re in, and if you’d like to begin on November 1st.

I’m really excited about this. I’ve already done Decision 1 for 21 days, and I’m on Decision 2, but I’ll start again (and keep going).
